It's official! We have been approved by the Anderson District One School Board to begin our services on October 7th, 2007. This now means that we can begin with our advertising and print stuff. Anderson District One rents out the school to us for one year. After our year is up we have to find another location. We are already looking for our locations for next year when our contract with the school is up. We are thinking a lot about not having just one location but rather two- three locations in the upstate area. We are currently pursuing several different locations in the Easley, Powdersville, Williamston, Piedmont and Anderson areas.
We hope to have at least two locations nailed down by March. That will give us time to prepare for the move. Some people have asked if we will be doing video venues. The answer is no. The whole service will be live and in person. (I know that Sea Coast, North Pointe and others have been using video effectively but it doesn't fit into the vision of what we are trying to do. No offense is intended toward churches doing video but it is just not us.) We will be simply staggering our times to allow some of the staff to travel to the different locations. Our goal is to meet these different communities where they are and make a difference in each of these areas.
As we add our third and fourth location, we will add an additional speaker and we will rotate between locations. This way it will not be known as one person's church but rather a church of many people. We will have the same ministries at each location. I shared some of this in the Core Groups this past week and it was really cool to see the reactions of everyone there. There was a buzz about what God is going to do.
We will be one church with 4 locations. It will be cool to see people from different communities coming together as one. This next year is going to be amazing.

Core Groups
Tonight I finished up the last of the four core group meetings that we had for the church. It has been amazing. My original goal was to have 25 people to be on board with the launch. After tonight's meeting we realized that through the four meetings, we had over 60 people represented through the core group process. A couple of families sent one or two people to the meeting to get the info for the entire family which was very cool.
All in all the core group meetings were a huge success and I am even more excited to see what God does from here. A special thanks to the Scott's, Garrison's, Miller's and my parents for hosting the meetings. I will be meeting with our leaders and then we will have a huge meeting with all of our volunteers in the next few weeks. If you didn't turn in your volunteer form at the meeting, please remember to drop me an email with your information within the next couple of weeks so that we can plug you into your area of ministry

Website, Tax Stuff, and Core Groups
The website is up and running www.sstonebridgechurch.tv .
Today was pretty productive on getting a ton of the official tax and paperwork stuff done. It is amazing how many things that you have to fill out for taxes, incorporation, non profit and so on. The good news is that all of this is completed and now I can spend more time on messages and series.
Our third core group meeting is Tuesday at 6:45 p.m in Piedmont. . Drop me an email if you need directions. The fourth one is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Powdersville.

Core Group Update
We have completed two of our core group meetings. Both went very well and people are getting on board. I was able to lay out our core values and our focus. I shared the vision with both groups and the response was awesome. We had some great questions and discussions. It was a unique learning process for me personally and it felt good to be able to lay everything out and see others get excited about what it going to take place.
We have two more core group meetings next week and I am excited to see what will take place in those meetings as well. It is not too late to get in on one of those meetings.
The cool thing about these meetings is seeing God fill the spots where we have needs. It is late and I have an early meeting with our web designer tomorrow. I will update more later.

People to Pray For
I thought I would just update on some key folks who are already on board and ask that you pray for these folks and others that will be leading key areas as we get started. Chasen Callahan will be our Worship Leader. Mark Sexton is going to be our Associate Worship Leader. Erin Brown and Casey Callahan are going to be heading up our Children's area. Jeff Garrison has signed on to head up our media. We have several others who are praying over things and making sure this is where God wants them to be. I will be updating this often letting you know some of the folks helping out so that you can get to know them more.
Full Speed
Things are moving along full speed ahead. Today has been incredibly busy and very encouraging. Between Melissa and myself we each ran into five more families that said they would be at Stone Bridge on 10.07.07 @10:07 a.m. at Wren High School. I already have been working on the message for that Sunday and I am excited to see what takes place. Be in prayer that people would stop just merely living and that they would Step into Life that Sunday.
Our Core Groups kick off tommorrow night at the home of Ray and Sandra Clary. We'll meet from 7-8. Thursday we will be in Anderson at the home of Jeff and Alfreda Scott. That also will meet from 7-8.

First Series and Keystones
Today was spent doing some brainstorming for our first series "Life in HD". I met up with Wil and Reggie at Marathon North and we brainstormed through all four messages in that series. We came up with some cool stuff that will challenge and stretch us all. Be sure to go ahead and be inviting your friends and neighbors to our first service on 10.07.07 @10:07 a.m. at Wren High School.
One of the main things Stone Bridge will be focused on is Keystones, which is our home group or life groups. Doing life together as seen in Acts 2 is a key component of what the church was created to be. Keystones will be a basis for discipleship, fellowship, missions , and evangelism. If Keystones operates the way the early church operated, we will see people come to Christ in our everyday lives as we come in contact people day by day. A friend gave me some interesting material this week. It basically said that a church can be an organization where Sundays become the entire focus or the church can become a living organism through life groups. Once a church moves beyond an organization and transforms into a living organism, then true life change begins to take place. Church then moves from being a building or a service and turns into a lifestyle lived out daily by the Body of Christ. Then our "services" become a celebration of what has taken place throughout the week in the life of the church.
My prayer is that we will will become like that. A church that does life together and as we do, a community is changed.

Update
The past couple of days have been extremely busy. The web site is coming together quite nicely and should be up and running within the next couple of weeks. We are putting together our Children's Ministry Team and have already met with a couple of folks who are going to be heading that up. This is huge because the Children's Area has been one of my biggest concerns.
I have met with several other people this week who will be a part of the church in different ways and each meeting has given me more insight into what it will take for the church to make an impact in the community.
This coming week begins our core group meetings. If you would like to be a part of one of these, drop me an email and I will send you directions to the one that you choose to come to. The response so far has been good and I am looking forward to seeing what happens when we begin to come together for these meetings.

What Does it Take to Start a Church? (Part 3)
Recently, someone who knew I was starting a church, asked me how much money does it take to start a church. I told him that it depends on a number of factors.
You have to consider things like: what type facilities are you going to be renting for your weekly service? Will it be furnished? Is there a sound system? Are you planning on having a projection system? Will you have any paid staff to start? What will you do about computers? How much will it cost to furnish the Children's Area? Will you need a trailer to carry all the stuff you rent or buy? How much will your materials cost for Home Groups? This list could go on and on but I think you get the point.
Anyway, we have decided to focus on some key things at the beginning of our church start. Our main focus is the following aspects: Home Group Fellowship, Children, Youth, College, and Corporate Worship Time.
Having nailed that down, then we had to look and say what are they key elements we need to start? Then we proceeded from there. We wanted to avoid being in heavy debt so we have focused on the basics. Don't get me wrong we are going to do ministry in an excellent way but we did not want to start out way over our head.
So for us that number is $18,000. It will take us about $18000 to start a church. That covers facility rental, sound system, projection system, children's area, computers, materials for home groups, web design and more. The cool thing is that I have hardly shared this with anyone and so far we have had over $5000 given to the church. I am amazed at what God is doing and is going to do. My goal is for us to start into our first week and be completely debt free right from the start.

What Does it Take to Start a Church? Part 2
People- To start a church requires people, but not just warm bodies. To start a church it takes people that are committed to the vision of the church. When people unite with a shared vision of what a church can and should be, then we begin to see the church making a difference in the community in which it operates.
In Acts 2 it talks about how they were working together in unison. They were doing life together. They were authentic in their everyday dealings in the community. People could see that worship was their everyday lifestyle and not just a service on Sunday. They were doing ministry simply by living out each day of their life for Christ.
Starting a church requires people who are willing to do as Mathew 5:16 says when we're called to live our lives each day so that others see Christ working through us and in us.
To many, church today has become a Sunday Morning performance. People dress up and show up to put on their show. On the outside everything looks great but on the inside there is a longing for something more. To start a church it requires people who are committed to allow Sunday Morning to be an extension of Christ working in their lives the other six days of the week. When this begins to happen, the church comes to life and lives begin to be changed.

What Does it take to Start a Church? Part 1
Part 1 Vision-
Back several years ago, Melissa and I began taking a look at church and how it was or wasn't impacting the lives of the people in it. Being on staff it was an introspection process for me and all I was doing or not doing at the time. Melissa and I had several conversations on how the church was impacting or not impacting the lives of people. Then one Sunday we were sitting there in the service and it hit me. I had watched as soloist, deacons, the choir and others had done one part or another in the service and it seemed as if there was a total disconnect.
I began thinking about what I was doing and I realized where the disconnect came from. Most everything that the church(myself included) was doing was totally irrelevant in the life of the average person outside the walls of the church. The reason people were'nt coming was because we had failed to meet people where they were. We were in the 21st century conducting ministry from the 19th century. The same old way of doing things wasn't working but no one would change because it was so comfortable to continue doing things the way they always had been done.
That was over 6 years ago.
God placed a vision on my heart that church could be different. God is still in the business of using the people of the church to reach the world. But if we are going to do this then we have to be willing to change.
I see a church where people are passionate about God. I see a church where it's people are passionate about others. Not concerned about just themselves and what's in it for them but a people who look out for the needs of others.
I see a church where the people are authentic, a place where people are real in their worship. I see a church that lives out this authenticity each day of the week as they worship God with their lifestyle.
I see a church that is relevant in it's presentation of the Message of Christ. I see a church that doesn't get stuck in the rut of traditions. I see a church that is willing to step out in faith to become all things to all men.
And finally I see a church where people give their best to God, not just a half hearted effort. But giving their best realizing that people's eternity is at stake. A church where people don't merely go through the motions but rather dive in head first giving their full effort.

Core Group Meetings
We have scheduled 4 of the Core Group meetings with one left to finalize. Having said that, if you would like to get in on the ground floor of what is going to be happening at Stone Bridge Church then make plans to be at one of these meetings. Each meeting will be the same so you will only need to be at one. This will be a time of sharing the vision for the church, prayer, and answering any questions that you may have. You will also have a chance to get plugged in to one of our ministries right from the start. If you are considering being a part of the church, then I encourage you to be a part of this awesome time. Once you decide which meeting you will be able to attend, please email me at scbushelno@aol.com for directions and so we can have an idea of how many to plan for at each location. The dates and locations are as follows: August 22nd- Easley @ the home of Ray and Sandra Clary, August 23rd-Anderson @ the home of Jeff and Alfreda Scott, August 28th -Piedmont @ the home of Jeff and Lisa Garrison, August 29th - Powdersville @ the home of Danny and Brenda Miller

Here's the Latest
We have just about finalized our upcoming Core Group meetings. I will post the dates and locations in the next couple of days. I will say that there will be one meeting in Piedmont, one in Anderson, one in Easley, and two in Powdersville. Once I post the locations, you are free to attend the one closest to you. These Core Group meetings will help you find out more about the church and have any questions answered that you might have. These meetings promise to be exciting as we will begin to see the possibilities that can take place. I am excited about sharing the vision of the church and even more excited to see what happens when people get on board.
Melissa and I will be in Cincinnati this week with Isaac while he has surgery. I will still update and this week I will be doing a three part post on what it takes to start Stone Bridge Church.
Check back for more updates this week and remember to go ahead and begin inviting people for 10.07.07 @ 10:07 A.M. in the Wren High School Auditorium. My prayer is that people would come to Christ from Day 1.

Location
It seems as though I missed the deadline to get on this weeks docket at the school board meeting by a day. So the final decision from the school board won't be made until later this month. Basically though, the school has already signed off on us using the school which is usually the main part. So with all of that said, I am not going to make everyone wait any longer to find out where we will be meeting. Keep in mind that this location is subject to the approval of the school board.
On 10/07/07 at 10:07 a.m. Stone Bridge Church will hold its very first service in the auditorium at Wren High School.
The reason this area was chosen for a new church plant is because Nothern Anderson County/Southern Pickens County is one of the fastest growing areas in the Upstate of SC. Currently, there are 20,000 unchurched people within a 5 mile radius of our location and more than 60,000 unchurched people with in a 10 mile radius. There are currently two new neighborhoods with in 4 miles of our location that will have over 600 new homes with in the next two-three years. That is not including a number of new smaller neighborhoods with 20-100 homes. With all of the growth there comes a need for a new church plant to reach this growing community.
We will focus on our core values as we strive to reach people for Christ. 1.Passionate- We are passionate about God and passionate about people. Luke 10:27
2. Authentic- The world is looking for people who are real. We want to be authentic in our worship while realizing that worship is our lifestyle. Romans 12:1
3. Relevant- Relevant to today's culture. Changing our methods, never changing God's message. 1 Corinthians 9:21-23
4. Excellent- Excellence in all we do. Excellence is not perfection but rather offering our best. Luke 21:1-3
More details will be coming out in the next couple of weeks. Our website is getting closer to being up and running. Be sure to mark your calendars for 10/07/07 and begin inviting folks on what promises to be an awesome day.

No News Yet
We hope to have some news about the decision from the school board soon. Our contact at the school was out today so we were unable to find out any information. I will be making a stop by the offices tomorrow to see what I can find out.
Today was more meetings with the sound guy. I did a lot of our content work to give to our web designer.
Tonight a local pastor came by and we talked about the church and things we've got left to do.
We have set up two of our four informational core group meetings set and look to have the others set by this Friday. These will be posted this Weekend and you will have a chance to sign up for the one that is closest to you.

Hopefully in the Morning
Hopefully in the morning we will find out the outcome of the school board decision. I will post info on the location as soon as we find out something.
Today was another day of paper work and logistical stuff. I finished up the paper work for the tax emept status and it will be sent in tommorrow. I met with the web designer and the web site is coming along.
The rest of the week is going to be spent on planning and core group preparation.

More Logistics
This morning I started the day with a couple of hours worth of paper work getting all of the proper stuff together for our 501 3c status. I had no idea that there was so much paper work involved in the process. It wasn't that hard, just time consuming.
After that I headed off to meet with a sound and projection guy. He is working us up a qoute for all of our sound system and projection needs. We won't necessarily have all of the bells and whistles but we will have enough to be functional from the start. We will be making a decision on what system this week. We are working with my friend Danny Crawford at the Music Maker in Easley. Be sure and check those guys out if you are in need of anything sound equipment related.
After I left Easley, it was off to Greenville to the lawyers office to get our paper work checked out. I left there and then went by Comp USA where I spent the better part of 2 hours checking about exactly what Macs we would need for our editing, graphics and presenting. After that it was after five and I called it a day.
Tommorrow is the big day with the school board and I hope to be able to share our location with everyone on Wednesday. I also will be sharing more on the vision of Stone Bridge when I share the location. Things are getting exciting. There is a buzz in the air and I can't wait to see what takes place.

Three Day Recap
Here is a quick recap of the last three days. Friday, I met with the guy who is going to be doing our web design. We decided on a general layout for the site and he will have some preliminary templates for me to view on Tuesday. This is key because we are going to be advertising the website so that people can find out information about us and hopefully will come and check out what is going to be happening.
Our guy who is doing our graphics has finished up our logo which will be key to ordering some of our print media and signage.
We received our paperwork that has to be completed to get our 501 3c status. That will be filled out and sent in by Monday afternoon.
We are supposed to be hearing from the school this week to make it official that we can use the facility.
We will posting the dates and locations for our core group meetings by this Friday. If you would like to be a part of the core group, drop me an email at sammy@sammyclary.com. We have had several people express interest in this and I am looking forward to sharing the vision of Stone Bridge Church.
Here are a few prayer requests: 1. The people we are going to be reaching 2. Pray for the right person to lead our children's ministry 3. Wisdom in all of our decisions

Location
No, I can't tell you the location today. But, I hope to be able to announce that in a few days after the approval is finalized. I met with the school officials once more today and turned in all of the required paperwork along with a check for the first month's rent. The school has been tremendous and very good to deal with. We had narrowed down our potential locations and this one just made the most sense as well as gives us room for growth. All of the locations that we looked at were very helpful and we possibly will be using one of the other locations for our youth services. I hope to be able to announce the location sometime next week when it becomes official. The school has signed off on it and now it goes before the board for approval.
I met today with our guys that will lead worship and we are all on the smae page as to what our focus will be when it comes to the worship service. It will be just that, a time of corporate worship involving everyone.
A couple of us also met today regarding our signage and graphics. This was a very good time of meeting as well. As soon as we are approved for our location, we will begin getting the word out through our print pieces, signage, and word of mouth.
Tomorrow, I will be meeting with our web site designer. This is important because this will be one of places that people will find out information about our church. We want the site to be appealing and informative.

10 07 07 @10:07
10 07 07 @10:07. So what does that mean? Well, that is the start date for Stone Bridge Church. 10/07/07 at 10:07 a.m.. You will see that a ton in the next two months. Today was another day of getting after it. Today I spent a lot of time talking with the new church plant office and they have sent out the papers for us to get our 501 3c status as a non profit church. I had a meeting with the school that we will probably be meeting at for our services. I met with the principal and everything is looking good. I have filled out all the paperwork and will be sending in our first month's rent tommorrow to lease out the facility for Sundays. We are looking at another location to have our youth ministry on Wednesdays.
I have spent the last few days answering questions about the church and gearing up for our first week. I am going to meet with the guys who will be leading our worship tommorrow. We are also taking a look at some graphics and stuff tommorrow as well. I have a meeting with our web designer on Friday. We have purchased our web domain and it will be Stonebridgechurch.tv . Dot com, dot net , and dot org were already taken so we went with dot tv.
I am going to set up our core group meetings and they will begin meeting in the next few weeks. This will be a chance to learn more about the church as well as ask questions. It will be awesome.
